Essential cookie

The essential cookie is the session cookie, usually called MoodleSession. This cookie is required to provide continuity between pages and to keep you logged in while you browse the site. When you log out or close your browser, this cookie is automatically destroyed in your browser and on the server.

Functional cookie

The MOODLEID cookie (or similar) remembers your username in your browser so that the username field on the login page is pre-filled when you return. It is safe to refuse this cookie; you will simply need to re-enter your username each time you log in.
